Collaboration takes the lead in water information research.

A new publication shows how CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) are collaborating on water information research and development to improve management of Australia’s water resources

Science Symposium Proceedings provides a snapshot of research conducted as part of an alliance between CSIRO and the Bureau, the Water Information Research and Development Alliance (WIRADA).

Among the research projects discussed in the Proceedings are:

an Australian water data transfer format, a standard in which water information providers can send their data to the Bureau
the most comprehensive and consistent view of water features in Australia, thanks to the new Australian hydrological geospatial fabric (Geofabric)
a seasonal streamflow forecasting service, available from the Bureau’s website
the short-term water information forecasting tools hydrological modelling package, which has been used to develop a pilot of continuous streamflow forecast for the Ovens River in Victoria
the Australian water resources assessment modelling system, a tool for estimating water balance components – crucial for water accounting and assessment
a set of foundation hydrological data products, essential to the generation of reliable and regular reporting of the nation’s water resources.
